Yak Attack on Everest Base Camp Trek: Namche Bazaar Day 3
Day 3 of the Everest Base Camp Trek is here, and it’s a wild ride! From a surprise yak encounter to meeting my trekking inspiration, this day was packed with excitement, unforgettable views, and a little bit of chaos. Join me as I navigate the steep trails of Namche Bazaar, uncover the rich history of the Khumbu region, and experience the highs and lows of acclimatization hikes. Buckle up—this day is full of unexpected moments and breathtaking scenery!
Morning in Namche Bazaar:
The day started with a bit of a struggle—Namche’s solar-powered lighting meant I was fumbling around in the dark like I was in a low-budget horror film. Breakfast saved the day with a simple but satisfying meal of eggs and toast, courtesy of my guide, Bhupal. After fueling up, it was time to start the acclimatization hike.

The Acclimatization Hike - Steep Trails and Stunning Views:
Today’s challenge? Climbing higher to adjust to the altitude, only to come right back down. It felt like Everest itself was playing a prank, but the clear views of Namche from above made it worth the effort. With every step, my legs were screaming, but my heart was full—this place is truly magical.

A Close Encounter: The Yak Attack
The day took a dramatic turn when we encountered a herd of yaks. My guide Bhupal decided to film them, but one of the yaks clearly didn’t appreciate being on camera. It charged, and I think I broke the world record for fastest sprint at altitude. Thankfully, the yak decided we weren’t worth the effort, but it definitely made for an adrenaline-packed moment.

A Legendary View: The Everest View Hotel
After surviving the yak attack, we pushed on to the Everest View Hotel. The skies were clear, revealing Mount Everest in all its glory. Sipping tea with a view of the world’s highest peak was surreal. Even Bhupal, who’s used to the cold, was shivering—proof that this place is as cold as it is beautiful.

Namche Bazaar - Exploring the Heart of the Khumbu:
Back in Namche, I finally met Tealok, the guide who inspired me to take this trek. Meeting him was a full-circle moment and reminded me why I started this journey in the first place. I also explored the local shops and found a place hilariously named “Yakbucks Coffee”—turns out, coffee at 11,000 feet tastes even better when it’s named after a yak!

Reflections and Next Steps:
As night fell, power outages reminded me just how remote we really are. I found myself reflecting on the day—the exhilaration, the fear, the surreal moments with Everest in sight. Tomorrow, we go even higher, but tonight, I’m just grateful for this unforgettable day.
